Procedures for Revising Course Section Offerings

Course offerings on this listing are based on your Fall 2003 and Spring 2004 offerings. Please check these offerings for alternate year courses and make additions and deletions as necessary. Note any changes in red pen.

Section Offering Data:

COURSE NUMBER, TITLE, & SECTION Course number, title, and section are printed. The course title is an abbreviated title (19 characters) that will appear in the Schedule of Classes and on students' permanent records. If enrollment in the section is controlled or restricted, an asterisk (*) is printed in the section column. In every case where there are controlled or restricted sections, there must be a course or section comment or prerequisite which explains the nature of the control or restriction.
CREDITS Course credits from the catalog are printed in bold type on the course information line. Credits are also printed for each section, and should be the same as in the catalog unless noted otherwise.
COURSE COMMENT Course comments will print in the Schedule of Classes as NOTES. Course comments apply to all sections of a course and may include special registration instructions or other pertinent information.
SECTION COMMENT Section comments also print as NOTES in the Schedule of Classes, but apply only to a specific section.
GRADED SECT GRADED in this column indicates a final class list will be produced for this section.
TODAY'S LIMIT Today's limit is the limit used by the registration system to determine if a section is open "today". Generally, today's limit and the maximum limit are equal, but in some cases today's limit may be less than the maximum limit.
MAXIMUM LIMIT Maximum limit is the "real limit" for the section and is used to determine the room size for the course. Note: An 888 limit is used for a cross listed course in the minor teaching department. Where a limit of 888 is listed, the system will check the major department to determine if the section is open. If a section has a zero maximum limit, you must: (1) Change the maximum limit to a realistic limit of greater than zero, or (2) Cancel the section. If the maximum limit is not raised to something other than zero, we will consider the section cancelled and remove it from the offerings.
TYPE INSTRUCTION For valid instruction types, see the attached Definition of Instruction Types document. Instruction type must match or be a subset of instruction type(s) stored at the course level. LEC-A in this column indicates that students in this section are to be combined with students in other sections designated as LEC-A on a class list printed for section A.
MEETING TIME Meeting days and times are listed. Actual start and stop times should be listed for courses meeting 75-90 minutes per day. See Course Scheduling web site for more information.
INSTRUCTOR NAME & SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER Do not write instructor names and social security numbers on these pages. Departments are responsible for loading instructor information to ADIN. One instructor name will be displayed on the Web Schedule of Classes per meeting segment. If there is more than one instructor for each meeting segment, you may enter all names, but only the first name entered will display on the Web Schedule of Classes.
ROOM FEATURES/ASSIGNMENTS If you have special room needs, indicate those needs under room features/assignments. Some room information may be preprinted in this column. Questions regarding room scheduling, special room needs, or coding in this column should be directed to roomscheduling@iastate.edu

Remarks and Common Room Codes:

HALF-TERM MESSAGES Half-term messages are printed as they will appear in the Schedule of Classes.
DATES Courses with specific meeting dates should be noted as PARTIAL TERM with specific DATES printed below.
COMMON ROOM CODES Common room codes are used to indicate sections which meet together in the same room at the same time. If you have sections that meet together in the same room, you must indicate you need a common room. Failure to do so will result in separate room assignments with insufficient capacity. Edit preprinted common room codes and add any which have been omitted.
ADMINISTRATIVE DEPT For departments administered by two colleges, this field indicates which college has primary responsibility for each course. Administrative college may be modified by section by noting the correct college designation.
ALSO TAUGHT AS XXXX This message prints on dual listed courses and on the major department listing for a cross listed course.
SEE XXXXX FOR LIMIT This message is printed on the minor department listing of a co-/cross listed course.
SEE DEPT FOR REF # This message indicates that no reference number will be published for this course in the Schedule of Classes. Students will need to contact the department or instructor to obtain the appropriate reference number. Reference numbers for such courses will be the same as those used for previous semesters.
