Official Transcripts

Official transcripts are available to current and former students at no cost and are fulfilled by our third-party vendor, Parchment.

The official transcript is a certified document of your academic history. It includes in-progress courses, courses completed, final grades earned, credit hours, grade point averages, and any degree(s) awarded. The official transcript bears the Iowa State University seal, signature of the Registrar, and is printed on secure paper.

Frequently Asked Questions

When you place your order, you will get the option to have your transcript sent electronically or hard copy.

We do not offer the option for students to pick up their transcript in our office.

Grades will post to student records and transcripts the day after final grades are due for that semester. Degrees will post to student records and transcripts approximately three weeks after the end of the semester.

When you place your order, you can chose to have your order held for final grades, for degrees, or for both.

Transcripts being sent electronically typically process within the day the order is placed. Transcripts that are being sent via domestic mail may take up to 15 business days and 30 business days for international mail delivery.

Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), The Office of the Registrar cannot release a students transcript to a third party without the permission of the student. The student themself should order their transcript and have it sent electronically or physically, or via physical mail to the third party.

Third parties may request a transcript on behalf of a student with a signed consent form.

Students should resolve any transcript holds on your account prior to ordering. To view any active holds on your account, login to Workday and go to your Academics Dashboard. Scroll down to the My Holds section to see any holds that may be on your account. Click on a hold to review the resolution instructions. Once the hold is removed, you can place your order.

Iowa State University cannot provide transcripts from other institutions you may have attended. If transcripts are needed from those institutions, you will need to order from them directly.

If you are uncertain what something means on the official transcript, refer to the legend that accompanies each transcript. This legend is printed on an additional sheet of paper that explains the codes, grading basses, and course information that is viewable on the transcript.

Attachments may be uploaded within the order form to be sent with transcripts. Approved attachments include transcript tracking and matching forms and documents verified by the Office of the Registrar. Other documents, such as resumes or transcripts from other institutions, must be sent under separate cover.

Transcripts will display your legal name. Students who need to change their name should refer to our Name Change Policies page for further directions.

If you already have a Parchment account, you can continue to use it as you normally would. You do not have to switch to using your NetID, though you can if you want.

Unofficial Transcripts

As of Fall 2026, the unofficial transcript is now available to current students. Students should login to Workday and navigate to the Academics dashboard and select Generate Unofficial Transcript from the menu on the right. The Office of the Registrar will not provide the unofficial transcript to former students or third parties.

With the discontinuation of AccessPlus, former students needing their transcript should place an order via Parchment and have it sent to themselves.
